Application
During my teaching experiences at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education, I had the opportunity to get to know the students in the leading roles, chorus parts, and dancers. As an accompanist and teacher, I needed to find ways of rehearsing with students in different ways to help them learn their music according to their learning types. During the Musical Extravaganza camp, the teaching staff used student generated ideas for the script and songs to hold together the plot. This was another way that we "honored their world".
Nick Page was also a perfect example of honoring the student's world. He spoke about engaging students in group participation by understanding cultural background, and by creating excitement and confidence in a group of students.
